On this relatively rare iconographic type the Mother of God inclines her head slightly towards the Christ Child who is depicted in three-quarter profile, sitting on her left arm. With her right hand, she holds Christ’s right foot. Christ has raised his right leg and holds his own foot with his hand. In his other hand is a closed text scroll. Characteristic for the Shuiskaya type is the rich chrysography on the clothing of both the Virgin and the Christ Child. The prototype of the icon was painted in 1655 in the city of Shuya in Russia.
