Against a gold ground the following four church feasts have been depicted: Presentation of Christ in the Temple, Baptism of Christ, Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Thabor and the Washing of the Feet. The style of the painting is highly refined and is reminiscent of book illumination. It is known that some of the most skilled icon painters where also active as book illuminators.
In all probability the icon was painted in a Moscow or Stroganov workshop in the first half of the 17th century. In these workshop icons were painted in an exceptionally refined and elegant style. The present icon has been transferred into another panel in the 19th century (vrezka).
