The Synaxis of the Archangels is depicted in the centre of the icon on a gold ground. The archangels, all wearing ecclesiastical vestments, stand in a circular composition on swirling clouds. The two archangels in the foreground, the archangel Gabriel to the left and the archangel Raphael to the right, support the medallion with the image of Christ Emmanuel, with cherubim (blue) and seraphim (red) underneath. The archangel Michael appears behind Christ Emmanuel, and is holding the nomina sacra IC XC in his outstretched left and right hand. The scene on top shows Christ Enthroned dressed as high priest. To the left and to the right are the Mother of God and St John the Forerunner, raising their hands in prayer. Two the left three archangels are depicted, Michael, Raphael and Selaphiel. To the right are the archangels Gabriel, Uriel and Jegudiel. In the centre below, the archangel Barachiel is represented together with the Guardian Angel.
